FAQ

What armor tiers are in Drill to Earth's Core?
Seven: Rusty, Steel, Gold, Diamond, Void, Phoenix and King's. Each has a matching badge for wearing the full set, which is how the tiers are confirmed — the game creates a badge the moment a set ships.
How do I get a full Diamond Armor set?
Diamond pieces come from structures and chests in the deeper layers. Wearing all four awards the Diamond Armor badge, and it is also the requirement for Tank class Level 2.
Why do I need Void Armor?
Two reasons. It is a later-game set with better stats, and Tank class Level 3 requires wearing a full Void Armor set alongside tanking 25,000 damage. Without the set you cannot finish the upgrade.
What is King's Armor?
King's Armor is one of the higher armor tiers, added on 28 August 2026. Wearing the full set awards the King's Armor badge. Pieces come from deep-layer structures and boss content.
Does armor affect your class?
Only through upgrade requirements. Tank is the class that gates on armor sets — Level 2 needs full Diamond, Level 3 needs full Void. Other classes gate on kill counts, damage totals or chest counts instead.

Every armor tier

Armor in Drill to Earth’s Core comes in seven tiers, and each one has a matching badge awarded for wearing the complete set. The badges are how the tiers are confirmed: the developers create one the moment a set ships, so the badge list is the authoritative record.

Tier Full-set badge Notes
Rusty Rusty Armor The starter set. Tank begins with a Rusty Chest
Steel Steel Armor Added March 2026
Gold Gold Armor Added March 2026
Diamond Diamond Armor Mid-game set; gates Tank Level 2
Void Void Armor Later set; gates Tank Level 3
Phoenix Phoenix Armor Added June 2026
King’s King’s Armor Added August 2026

Each set awards its badge the moment you equip all four pieces, which means the armor badges are effectively a progression checklist. You can see the full badge list in the Cores guide, since achievements are also a Core source.

Armor is a class gate, not just stats

The reason to care about armor tiers is that Tank gates on them:

  • Tank Level 2 requires tanking 10,000 damage and wearing a full Diamond Armor set
  • Tank Level 3 requires tanking 25,000 damage and wearing a full Void Armor set

Both halves matter. Tanking the damage happens naturally if you play the class; assembling four matching pieces means finding them first. That is why Tank takes noticeably longer to level than its 5,000-Core price suggests.

No other class gates on armor. The rest use kill counts, damage totals, chest counts or fuel contribution — the best classes tier list summarises what each one needs.

Where armor comes from

Armor pieces drop from structures and chests, and a few enemies drop equipment directly:

Source What it gives
Goblin Champion Champion’s Helmet, Chest, Legs, Hammer
Goblin Knight Steel Sword
Gunner Miner Crazy Miner Chest, Helmet
Vampire Golden Keys — which open gear chests in the Vampire Mansion
Structures and chests Armor pieces by tier, deeper layers give better tiers

The Goblin Champion is the most efficient single source: it drops a complete set from one enemy type, and it appears in the Goblin’s Arena in the Crystal Layer. The enemies guide has the drop table, and the structures and dungeons guide maps where each structure spawns.

Golden Keys are the other route. Vampires drop them, and they open the chests inside Vampire Mansions — which is the Clay Layer’s dedicated gear room. Since Clay is also where the Void Clay Wall Boss waits, the sensible order is mansion first, boss wall second.

Armor and the rest of your build

Armor is one of three gear systems, and they solve different problems:

  • Armor — survivability, and the Tank upgrade gate
  • Weapons — damage, and the gate for Gunslinger and Bruiser single-hit requirements
  • Drill upgrades — the wall-breaking system, bought with Coins during a run

The drill upgrade system is the one that actually ends runs. Boss wall HP climbs from 100 in the Grass Layer to 500,000 before the 100 km mark and 5,000,000 at the Heart of the Earth, and no amount of personal armor or weapon damage keeps pace with that. The layers page has the full HP table.

So: collect armor for the badges and for Tank’s gates, but spend your Coins on RPM Overclock, Ultra Drill and Power Burst — the three cards that break walls. The drill upgrades guide explains why that trio works as a set.
