FAQ

How much does the Reaper class cost in Drill to Earth's Core?
Reaper costs 10,000 Cores. It sits in the same price band as Demolitionist, Princess and Lucky Looter, and its Level 4 team bonus gates at 10,000,000 m of career total depth — the same gate Demolitionist uses.
What does the Reaper soul orb do?
Enemies you kill have a 20% chance to drop a soul orb that heals 25 HP. Orbs heal you and also heal teammates who walk through them, which is why Reaper works as a support fighter rather than a pure damage class.
How do you unlock the Soul Lantern?
The Soul Lantern is the Level 2 upgrade and it requires 2,500 enemy kills. It damages enemies in a radius around you, which makes it a room-clear tool for dungeon hallways and goblin packs rather than a replacement for a rifle.
Is Reaper better than Healer?
For solo and long runs, yes. Healer costs 3,000 Cores and gives +10% healing, but it waits on medkit animations. Reaper costs 10,000 Cores and heals continuously from kills you were already making. Healer is the cheaper, more team-focused pick.
Does Reaper keep getting stronger?
Yes. After Level 2 the class adds max HP as you keep killing — community testing puts it around +5 max HP for every 10 kills. Other classes cap once their weapons and armor are maxed; Reaper keeps scaling through a long descent.

What Reaper actually does

Reaper is a 10,000-Core sustain class. You buy it to stop dying in rooms, not to deal the most damage.

The Level 1 passive is the whole identity: enemies have a 20% chance to drop a soul orb that heals 25 HP. The orbs heal you, and teammates who walk through them get healed too, so a Reaper quietly keeps a party alive without spending medkits. That is the difference between Reaper and Healer — Healer gives you a bigger heal number, but Reaper heals continuously from kills your team was going to make anyway.

If you have not settled your first purchases yet, the all classes page has every Core price, and the tier list explains why Reaper lands in A tier.

Level by level

Level Unlock What changes
1 10,000 Cores 20% chance on kill to drop a soul orb that heals 25 HP
2 2,500 kills Soul Lantern — damages nearby enemies in a radius
3 10,000 kills Max HP grows as you keep killing (community testing: about +5 HP per 10 kills)
4 10,000,000 m career depth Team bonus — a smaller orb chance for the whole lobby

The requirements are all kill counts, which is the trap. A Reaper who spends a run mining ore and hauling scrap stays underlevelled and feels weak. You have to actually fight. Feed the lantern.

The Soul Lantern is not a weapon

The most common mistake with Reaper is treating the Lantern as a gun. It is not. Think of it as a room-clear aura:

  • It is strongest where enemies crowd the cart — goblin rings, dungeon hallways, mob packs that bunch up.
  • It is weak against single ranged targets where a shotgun or rifle would be faster.
  • It keeps working while you are driving, which matters in the deeper layers where fuel-draining worms and leeches punish anyone who leaves the truck.

That last point is the real value. From the Crystal Layer down, the enemy list adds Fuel Leeches and Bats, and the deeper you go the more you want to solve problems without stepping outside. A lantern that kills while you drive does exactly that.

Where Reaper stops being the answer

Reaper does not discount drill power and it does not multiply chest drops. If your runs are ending because the boss wall outlasts your fuel, Reaper will not save you — Driller will.

The short version of the choice:

  • Wipes are “we starved the drill” → buy Driller instead.
  • Wipes are “we died in the door” → Reaper is the right 10,000 Cores.

Bandages still belong in your sack either way. They cost 10 Coins and they cover the gap between orb drops.

Team bonus and the depth gate

Reaper’s Level 4 is a team bonus, like every class in the game. It gates on 10,000,000 m of career total depth — the meters you have ever travelled across all runs, not the depth of one descent. A single 100 km clear adds 100,000 m, so the gate is a long-term project rather than something you chase in one session.

Until you clear it, the orbs are yours alone. After that the lobby gets a smaller orb chance, which is when Reaper stops being a selfish pick.

What to pair it with

  • Drill upgrades — Reaper keeps you alive; the drill still has to break the wall. RPM Overclock, Ultra Drill and Power Burst are the trio that does it.
  • Getting Cores — if you are still saving the 10,000, this is where the fastest Cores are.
  • Reaching 100 KM — the layer-by-layer plan, including where Reaper’s sustain matters most.
