FAQ

How much does the Mechanic class cost?
Mechanic costs 5,000 Cores, the same band as Driller, Tank, Gunslinger and Bruiser. Its Level 4 team bonus gates at 5,000,000 m of career total depth.
What does the Magnet do?
The Magnet is Mechanic's Level 2 unlock and it starts each run in your inventory. It attracts loot toward you, which saves the walk between drops — especially useful in structures where items scatter across the room.
How do I unlock Mechanic Level 2 and 3?
Level 2 requires contributing 10,000 Fuel to the drill. Level 3 requires selling 25,000 Coins worth of Scrap. Both are straightforward grind gates that happen naturally if you play the class as intended.
Why does fuel contribution matter?
Because running out of fuel is one of the two main ways runs fail. The Void Clay Wall Boss at 17,000 m empties your drill's tank on arrival, and every long boss fight burns through fuel. A Mechanic that contributes 50% more per coal makes the whole team's fuel stretch further.
Is Mechanic better than Miner for money?
They cover different materials. Miner doubles ore and bar sale prices; Mechanic doubles scrap value. If your runs produce more scrap than ore — which is common in structure-heavy descents — Mechanic is the better economy pick.

What Mechanic actually does

Mechanic costs 5,000 Cores and it solves the problem nobody talks about: fuel.

Everyone knows drill power ends runs. Fewer players notice that the other failure mode is a dry tank, and the game is built to punish it — the Void Clay Wall Boss at 17,000 m empties your drill’s fuel the moment you arrive. A team that can stretch its coal further survives content that a fuel-blind team wipes on.

You start each run with a Gas Can and Mechanic Armor, and the Magnet arrives at Level 2.

Level by level

Level Unlock What changes
1 5,000 Cores +50% Fuel Contribution
2 Contribute 10,000 Fuel to the drill Start each run with a Magnet that attracts loot
3 Sell 25,000 Coins worth of Scrap Scrap sells for +100% Coins
4 5,000,000 m career total depth Team bonus: +25% Fuel Contribution for the whole server

Fuel contribution compounds across the team

+50% fuel contribution means every coal you feed the drill is worth half again as much. In a 30-player server that is not a personal buff — it is a team-wide resource multiplier, and it is the reason Mechanic ranks above the pure damage classes.

The practical effect shows up at the two fuel-critical moments:

  • The Void Clay Wall Boss at 17,000 m, which drains your tank on arrival. The 100 KM plan recommends carrying 3 to 7 coal or more for exactly this fight — a Mechanic makes that coal go further.
  • Long boss fights from the Toxic Layer down, where 25,000 HP walls and up turn fuel into a timer.

The Magnet is a convenience that adds up

Level 2 starts you with a Magnet that pulls loot toward you. It sounds minor and it is not: loot scatters in structures, and the walk between drops is time you are not mining, fighting or fuelling.

In a Mineshaft or a Spider Tunnel, where ore and scrap are spread across the room, the Magnet is the difference between clearing a room and picking at it.

Scrap value doubles at Level 3

Scrap sells for +100% Coins at Level 3. That makes Mechanic a genuine economy class, not just a support one.

Scrap is the most common loot in the game — the drill upgrades guide notes that Little and Large Walls appear every 700 m to 1 km, and structures drop scrap constantly. Doubling its sale price is a steady income floor that does not depend on finding a rare ore.

The comparison with Miner is worth knowing: Miner doubles ore and bar prices, Mechanic doubles scrap prices. Which is better depends on whether your runs produce more ore or more scrap — structure-heavy descents favour Mechanic.

Hitting the requirements

  • Level 2: contribute 10,000 Fuel to the drill
  • Level 3: sell 25,000 Coins worth of Scrap
  • Level 4: 5,000,000 m of career total depth

Both gates are grind tasks that the class is already built to do — you will hit 10,000 fuel just by playing the role, and 25,000 Coins of scrap follows from the doubled sale price.

Where Mechanic fits

Mechanic is a support-economy hybrid, and it is one of the better 5,000-Core buys because it improves the team rather than adding to a damage pool that is already deep. Pair it with Driller for the wall and a fuel class for the tank, and the two biggest run-enders are both covered.

For the run plan where fuel management decides the outcome, see how to reach 100 KM. If you are choosing your first purchase, the best classes tier list has the priority order, and how to get Cores covers the fastest ways to afford it.
